Marc Stevens
Career
Born Mark Kuttner, Marc Stevens was a pioneering figure of the New York hardcore scene of the 1970s, working across both heterosexual and gay productions and appearing in over 80 films, including a supporting role in Barbara Broadcast (1977). He also led an erotic dance troupe, Le Clique, was photographed by Robert Mapplethorpe, and published two memoirs, 10½! and Making It Big. He died in 1989 from an AIDS-related illness, at the height of the epidemic’s toll on the industry. The XRCO Hall of Fame inducted him posthumously in 2008 and the AVN Hall of Fame followed in 2019, thirty years after his death.
Signature: A rare openly bisexual crossover performer of the era, working both sides of the industry at once, whose two Hall of Fame inductions came thirty and nineteen years after his death — recognition arriving only once the industry’s own institutions caught up with the record.
