Best Pornstar 2022: The Performers Who Defined the Year, Ranked

Type "best pornstar 2022" into a search bar and the results mostly skip a step: award ceremonies are named for the year they are held, not the year of work they reward, so a ceremony branded "2022" almost always honours 2021 releases, not 2022 ones.

The short answer

Casey Kisses ranks first for best pornstar 2022 on our index, on a full record that includes two Transgender Performer of the Year titles and a Movie of the Year screenplay credit. Cherie DeVille ranks second on an XBIZ Performer of the Year win, and Sasha Grey ranks third on a double Hall of Fame induction.

Why Casey ranks 1st

Kisses’s 2022-work credential is a fan-voted title, AVN Favorite Trans Cam Star, won at the 40th AVN Awards in January 2023 and confirmed directly against that ceremony’s own winners list.

Her bigger honours belong to the year before: AVN and XBIZ Transgender Performer of the Year, both won at ceremonies honouring 2021 work, the same season Casey: A True Story — an autobiographical feature she co-wrote with Joanna Angel and Shawn Alff — took AVN Movie of the Year outright, the ceremony’s top film prize judged against the whole field rather than in a trans category.

She is the only performer on this list with a writing credit on an AVN Movie of the Year winner. She is also ranked on our trans pornstars list.

The case against: Her flagship Performer of the Year titles, from both AVN and XBIZ, belong to the ceremony honouring 2021 work — a year before this article’s scope — and what carries her here is a fan-voted category instead.

Kisses grew up in the Little Haiti neighbourhood of Miami and began camming full time in 2015 after a car accident restricted her mobility, moving to Las Vegas the following year to work in film. In 2021 Adult Time produced Casey: A True Story, an autobiographical feature she co-wrote with Joanna Angel and Shawn Alff. At the 39th AVN Awards it won Movie of the Year — the ceremony’s top film prize, judged against the whole field rather than in a trans category — plus Best Screenplay, Best Soundtrack, and acting awards for three of its cast. Kisses took Best Thespian in the Trans/X category for her performance in it, and Transgender Performer of the Year at the same ceremony. In 2020 she donated the proceeds of a Chaturbate performance to the performer Peppermint during her breast-cancer treatment.

Signature: The only performer here with a writing credit on an AVN Movie of the Year winner — a general-field award, not a category one.

Why Cherie ranks 2nd

DeVille’s 2022 is anchored by XBIZ’s outright Performer of the Year title — the ceremony’s single un-gendered top prize — won at the XBIZ Awards 2023 for her 2022 work and confirmed directly against XBIZ’s own published winners list.

The same season added a fourth AVN MILF Performer of the Year, at the 40th AVN Awards, a category she went on to win a fifth time in 2025.

She holds a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree, has said she still works part-time in the field, and appeared the following year in the Netflix documentary Money Shot: The Pornhub Story. She is also ranked on our MILF pornstars list.

The case against: The MILF title is a category award rather than an overall one, and this is her fourth win in it rather than a first, so it adds depth more than novelty.

DeVille holds a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree and practised as a licensed clinician before entering the industry in 2011 at 32; she has said she still works part-time in physical therapy. She became the most-awarded performer of her generation in this category, winning AVN MILF Performer of the Year five times between 2018 and 2025 and taking the overall XBIZ Performer of the Year award in 2023. She writes for Rolling Stone and The Daily Beast and appeared in the 2023 Netflix documentary Money Shot.

Why Sasha ranks 3rd

Grey’s 2022-work credential is a double Hall of Fame induction — AVN and XRCO both inducted her at the ceremonies held in 2023, confirmed directly against each body’s own Hall of Fame listing.

Her actual Female Performer of the Year title, the one that made her the youngest winner in AVN history at twenty, belongs to 2008 — fifteen years before this article’s scope, and the win that made her name industry-wide rather than the one that qualifies her here.

She retired from adult film the year after that 2008 win and moved directly into a lead role in Steven Soderbergh’s The Girlfriend Experience and a recurring arc on HBO’s Entourage, alongside a career as an industrial musician and published author. She is also ranked on our all-time top pornstars archive.

The case against: A Hall of Fame induction recognises career achievement rather than any specific year’s output, and none of her active-performance awards fall inside this article’s 2022 window.

Grey debuted in 2006 and won AVN’s Female Performer of the Year in 2008 at twenty, the youngest performer ever to do so, retiring from adult film the following year. She moved directly into a lead role in Steven Soderbergh’s The Girlfriend Experience and a recurring arc on HBO’s Entourage, alongside a career as an industrial musician and published author. She has since built an ongoing career in mainstream media hosting, streaming and voice acting.

Why Danny ranks 4th

D’s 2022-work credential is AVN International Male Performer of the Year, won at the 40th AVN Awards in January 2023 and confirmed directly against that ceremony’s own winners list.

It followed three earlier XBIZ Foreign Male Performer of the Year titles, in 2014, 2016 and 2020, and preceded an AVN Hall of Fame induction — Video Branch — the following year, in 2024, which recognises career achievement rather than a specific year’s work and is not treated as a 2022 credential here.

A former construction worker from Kent who signed with Brazzers in 2011 after starting in gay-for-pay content under another name, he co-hosts the podcast Smash City and is also ranked on our big dick pornstars list.

The case against: His hair and eye colouring are not documented anywhere in his record, and the Hall of Fame induction that followed this win recognises his whole career, not 2022 specifically.

Why Vanna ranks 5th

Bardot’s 2022-work credential is her first Performer of the Year title anywhere: XBIZ Female Performer of the Year, won at the XBIZ Awards 2023 and confirmed directly against XBIZ’s own published winners list.

It came the year after she signed an exclusive contract with Slayed, a Vixen Media Group label, and the year before she went on to sweep AVN, XBIZ and XRCO Female Performer of the Year in the same season — a clean three-body sweep that belongs to 2023 work, not 2022, and is not the credential ranking her here.

A former hairstylist and club dancer from Miami who debuted in 2018, she is also ranked on our best figure pornstars list.

The case against: Her bigger, three-body sweep belongs to the following year’s ceremonies, for 2023 work — the single XBIZ title above is what her 2022 record actually rests on.

In 2022 she signed an exclusive contract with Slayed, a Vixen Media Group label. She won XBIZ Female Performer of the Year in 2023 and then swept the title at AVN, XBIZ and XRCO in 2024 — the only performer on this page to hold all three in the same season. Why Kira ranks 6th

Noir’s clearest 2022-work credential is also her biggest: AVN Female Performer of the Year, won at the 40th AVN Awards in January 2023 and confirmed directly against the award’s own Wikipedia winners table.

It capped a three-year Best Supporting Actress run stretching from 2021 to 2023, with 2022 the middle year — the one that falls inside this article’s scope alongside the flagship title itself.

She signed an exclusive Brazzers contract the following year and was elected in 2025 to the board of PASS, the Free Speech Coalition’s performer-screening service, the only performer on this list holding an industry governance role. She is also ranked on our brunette pornstars list.

The case against: Her record here concentrates on acting-category and overall titles rather than scene wins, and no reliable total credit count has been published for her.

Noir was born in California, raised in Nashville and began performing in 2014 at nineteen or twenty. She signed an exclusive Brazzers contract in 2023, digitally hosted the 38th AVN Awards in 2021, and in 2025 was elected to the board of directors of PASS, the Free Speech Coalition’s performer screening service — the only person on this list holding an industry governance role.

Why Savannah ranks 7th

Bond’s 2022 record spans three separate bodies in one season: AVN Best Foursome/Orgy Scene and XBIZ Best Sex Scene — Vignette, both confirmed against each body’s own 2023 winners list, plus Adult Empire’s Porn Clip of the Year.

She had already taken an AVN scene award and two niche titles the year before, so 2022 extended a run that has now produced a verified award or nomination every year since 2021 — the most consistent current stretch of any Australian-born performer, spanning four separate award bodies.

She trained in beauty therapy and stripped in Melbourne and Sydney before moving into film work in 2019, and by her own account appeared in more than fifty films in 2022 alone. She is also ranked on our Australian pornstars list.

The case against: None of her 2022-work wins is an overall Performer of the Year title — all three are scene- or clip-level categories.

Why Seth ranks 8th

Gamble’s 2022-work honour is AVN Male Performer of the Year, won at the 40th AVN Awards in January 2023 and confirmed directly against AVN’s own winners table.

It followed three consecutive AVN Best Actor titles from 2019 to 2021, so the top prize arrived on the back of an already-established acting record rather than out of nowhere.

He went on to add XBIZ’s own single, gender-neutral Performer of the Year title the following year, for 2023 work — a second body’s top honour that sits just outside this article’s window. He also directs and produces, and is married to fellow performer Kenzie Taylor.

The case against: He has no dedicated Wikipedia biography, and his other major title — the XBIZ Performer of the Year — belongs to the ceremony for 2023 work, one year after this record.

Gamble, married to fellow performer Kenzie Taylor, works as a director and producer alongside performing. He won AVN Best Actor three years running from 2019 to 2021, then AVN Male Performer of the Year in 2023, honouring 2022 work. His 2023-work honour is different in kind: XBIZ’s single Performer of the Year title, which is not split by gender, awarded at the XBIZ Awards held in January 2024 and confirmed directly against XBIZ’s own published 2024 winners list rather than a database summary.

Signature: The only performer on this page to hold XBIZ’s single, un-gendered Performer of the Year title — the ceremony’s outright top prize, not a category within it — for 2023 work.

Why Christian ranks 9th

Clay won XBIZ Europa Male Performer of the Year at the ceremony held in 2023, for his 2022 work, confirmed directly against XBIZ Europa’s own winners list, and added Best Sex Scene — Gonzo the same season.

He repeated the Male Performer of the Year win the following year, for 2023 work, and later added AVN’s own International Male Performer of the Year and a group-scene win in 2025.

Discovered by Riccardo Schicchi at a casting session in Rome and filming his first scene the next day at a villa in Frascati, he has built one of the largest credit counts of any active Italian performer — 1,623 acting roles by Italian Wikipedia’s count, with other reporting citing figures closer to 1,810. He is also ranked on our underrated pornstars list.

The case against: His exact debut year is only approximately documented as “early 2000s,” and his hair and eye colour are not recorded anywhere in his file.

Born Igli Papale in Ercolano, near Naples, Clay entered the adult industry after a casting session in Rome with Riccardo Schicchi, filming his first scene the following day at a villa in Frascati. He has built one of the largest credit counts of any active Italian performer — Italian Wikipedia lists 1,623 acting roles and 4 directing credits, with other industry reporting citing IAFD figures closer to 1,810 titles. He has won repeatedly at both the AVN Awards (Best Three-Way Sex Scene 2017; Best Foreign-Shot Anal Sex Scene 2021; Best International Anal Sex Scene 2022; Best International Group Sex Scene and International Male Performer of the Year, both 2025) and the XBIZ Europa Awards, including back-to-back Male Performer of the Year titles in 2023 and 2024.

Signature: Currently the most-awarded active Italian male performer, holding the 2025 AVN International Male Performer of the Year title and consecutive 2023–2024 XBIZ Europa Male Performer of the Year wins.

Why Martina ranks 10th

Smeraldi shared the AVN Award for Best International Group Sex Scene, for Rocco’s Double Trouble 5, with four other performers at the 40th AVN Awards in January 2023, for her 2022 work, confirmed directly against that ceremony’s own winners list.

She trained at the Rocco Siffredi Academy after debuting in 2019, appearing alongside Malena la Pugliese in early productions, and had already won Gonzo Movie of the Year at the 2020 XBIZ Europa Awards for My Name Is Zaawaadi.

Roughly four years separate her academy training from a shared AVN win, one of the faster award trajectories in this field. She is also ranked on our Italian pornstars list.

The case against: The win is a shared, scene-level category rather than an individual or overall title, and no consolidated total credit count has been published for her.

Born Alessandra Sau in Cagliari, Sardinia, Martina Smeraldi debuted in adult film at 19 and trained at the Rocco Siffredi Academy, where she appeared alongside Malena la Pugliese in early productions that helped her build a following. The gonzo feature My Name Is Zaawaadi, in which she performed, won Gonzo Movie of the Year at the 2020 XBIZ Europa Awards. In 2023 she shared the AVN Award for Best International Group Sex Scene with Sara Bell, Yves Morgan, Oscar Batty and Mike Chapman for Rocco's Double Trouble 5, Scene 2. She has made television appearances, including on Live – Non è la D'Urso in 2019, and lent her voice to the 2025 album Santana Money Gang by rappers Shiva and Sfera Ebbasta.

Signature: Went from Rocco Siffredi Academy student to a shared AVN Award winner within roughly four years — one of the faster award trajectories of the performers in this partition.

Why Malik ranks 11th

Delgaty won GayVN Favorite Top and Best Bi Sex Scene — for CineCum — at the ceremony held in 2023, for his 2022 work, confirmed directly against GayVN’s own winners list, alongside an XBIZ Gay Performer of the Year nomination the same season.

He began stripping in Montreal one week after turning eighteen and signed an exclusive Men.com contract at nineteen, then became the most searched-for performer in gay adult film online from 2022 to 2024 — a run beginning in the same year as this award. He is also ranked on our young male pornstars list.

Born Justin Lesage in Montreal, Delgaty began working as a stripper at the Campus club one week after his eighteenth birthday, and signed an exclusive contract with Men.com in 2020. He was the most searched-for performer in gay adult film online from 2022 to 2024 and has won three GayVN awards across three ceremonies. The route — dancing at eighteen, contracted at nineteen, top of the platform rankings by twenty-two — is the fastest ascent documented anywhere on this list.

Why Abella ranks 12th

Danger’s 2022-work credential is Pornhub’s own Most Popular Female Performer title, an audience-demand measure rather than a jury vote, distinct from her AVN Best New Starlet win, which dates to 2016 — six years before this article’s window, and not what earns her a place here.

She retired from performing in 2022, after an eight-year run that began with Bang Bros in 2014, and her broader record separately credits her as Pornhub’s single most-viewed performer worldwide, with 1.89 billion views logged — the largest documented single-performer audience figure of the period on this list.

She has studied toward a law degree at the University of Miami since 2024. She is also ranked on our Pornhub pornstars list.

The case against: Wikipedia’s own Pornhub Awards coverage does not itemise per-category winners for this cycle, so the title rests on her own biography rather than an independently itemised ceremony page.

Why Nicole ranks 13th

Doshi is the clearest new pornstar 2022 produced: she took Best New Starlet from three separate bodies — XBIZ, XRCO and NightMoves — in the same season, each confirmed independently against that body’s own 2023 winners list, and added an AVN Best Group Sex Scene win the same year.

Three juries reaching the same verdict on the same newcomer, in the same year, is a broader consensus than any single new-starlet title can show on its own.

She had debuted only in 2021, meaning the sweep landed in her second year of work, and followed it with a Pornhub Award for Top Anal Performer the year after. She is also ranked on our new pornstars roll.

The case against: All three of her 2022-work titles are newcomer-category wins rather than the top overall prize, and she has no dedicated Wikipedia biography.

Why Agatha ranks 14th

Vega’s 2022-work credential is AVN Best Foreign-Shot All-Girl Sex Scene, confirmed directly against the 40th AVN Awards’ own winners list.

Her bigger title, XBIZ Europa Female Performer of the Year — reportedly the first won by a non-European performer — belongs to the ceremony held the following year, for 2023 work, one year outside this article’s scope.

Born in Caracas and raised there before relocating to Tenerife, Spain, she debuted around 2017 and has since added further AVN foreign-scene wins in 2025 and 2026. She is also ranked on our Venezuelan pornstars list.

The case against: Her flagship Performer of the Year title belongs to the ceremony for 2023 work, not 2022, and no standalone English-language Wikipedia biography exists for her — the record here rests on German and French Wikipedia stubs plus Wikidata.

Why Charly ranks 15th

Summer is the second new pornstar 2022 produced on this list: AVN Best New Starlet at the 40th AVN Awards, for her 2022 work, confirmed directly against that ceremony’s own winners list, won the same season as a Best Virtual Reality Group Sex Scene title.

She had debuted only in 2019 and is also credited as a film director, an unusually early behind-camera credit for a performer this recently established — a newcomer title and a directing credit landing in the same period rather than one following the other by years. She is also ranked on our new pornstars roll.

What "best pornstar 2022" means, and the trap in the question

Award ceremonies in this industry are named for the year they are held, not the year of work they reward. The 40th AVN Awards were held in January 2023 and honoured films and scenes released during 2022. The 39th AVN Awards, held one year earlier in January 2022, honoured 2021 work. Say "the 2022 AVN Awards" without specifying which convention you mean and you can be talking about either ceremony — and a genuine share of the pages ranking for this keyword pick whichever one hands them a more familiar name, without stating which they mean at all.

This article picks one convention and states it once, here: "2022" means calendar-2022 work — performances, scenes and releases made during 2022, regardless of when the trophy for them was physically handed out. In practice that means the AVN, XBIZ and GayVN ceremonies held in January 2023, and the XRCO ceremony held in spring 2023. It does not mean the ceremonies held during calendar 2022 itself, which is the more intuitive but incorrect reading and the one that produces most of the wrong "2022 pornstar of the year" claims circulating online.

That distinction is not academic on this list. Casey Kisses’s AVN and XBIZ Transgender Performer of the Year titles — arguably her biggest career honours — were won at the ceremonies for 2021 work and sit one year outside this article’s scope; her actual 2022-work credential is a narrower, fan-voted Favorite Trans Cam Star win, and her entry says so rather than borrowing the bigger titles’ shine. Vanna Bardot’s three-body Female Performer of the Year sweep across AVN, XBIZ and XRCO is the same pattern in reverse: it belongs to 2023 work, one ceremony after her genuine 2022-work title.

Every award used as this article’s inclusion basis was checked against the candidate record assembled for this article and, for the ten performers who are profiled elsewhere on this site, against their own performer record directly — not against a single unstructured summary. This is the same standard the porn-star-2023 sibling article applies, and it produces the same kind of correction on both pages.

TermWhat it meansHow it differs
Ceremony yearThe calendar year an award show was physically held — what appears in a ceremony’s ordinal name, e.g. the "40th AVN Awards".Not the same as the year of the work being honoured, which is almost always the year before.
Honoured yearThe calendar year the nominated films, scenes and performances were actually released or performed — 2022, for every award this article treats as its inclusion basis. What this article means by "2022 work", stated explicitly on every entry where the distinction matters.
40th AVN AwardsHeld January 2023; honours 2022 releases. The single most-cited ceremony on this page.Distinct from the 39th AVN Awards, held January 2022, which honours 2021 work and is cited here only as career context, never as an inclusion basis.
XBIZ Awards 2023Held January 2023; honours 2022 releases, including the ceremony’s single, gender-neutral Performer of the Year title for the men’s side of the category and the separate Female Performer of the Year title. Not to be confused with "XBIZ Awards 2024", the following ceremony, which honours 2023 work.
Foreign Performer of the YearAVN’s and XBIZ Europa’s categories recognising the strongest work released outside the American studio system.A category-specific title, not the flagship un-qualified award — Danny D and Christian Clay both hold a foreign or Europa-region title for 2022 work rather than the outright Performer of the Year prize.
Context

2022: the year before the law took effect, and the ceremonies that closed it

2022

Louisiana’s legislature passes the law that would take effect the following January

Louisiana’s state legislature passed the age-verification requirement for adult websites during 2022, to take effect on 1 January 2023 — the law that the porn-star-2023 sibling article covers in detail once it actually binds site operators. 2022 is the year the requirement was written into law, even though its practical effect on the industry did not begin until the following year.

Throughout 2022

A newcomer class three juries could agree on

Nicole Doshi took Best New Starlet from XBIZ, XRCO and NightMoves in the same season, and Charly Summer won AVN Best New Starlet the same year — two separately confirmed newcomer titles rather than one, the kind of breakthrough evidence that makes "new pornstar 2022" a real, checkable search question rather than a guess.

January–spring 2023

The ceremonies that actually honour 2022 land

The ceremonies that settle who had 2022 were held across the following season: the 40th AVN Awards and the XBIZ Awards 2023, both in January 2023, the GayVN Awards 2023 the same month, and the XRCO Awards 2023 that spring. Between them they produced Vanna Bardot’s first Performer of the Year title, Seth Gamble’s outright AVN Male Performer of the Year, Kira Noir’s AVN Female Performer of the Year, and a Sasha Grey double Hall of Fame induction — alongside the three-body newcomer sweep that answers this page’s "new pornstar 2022" question directly.

The single most common error attached to this keyword is a real, verifiable award attributed to the wrong year — usually because a ceremony held during calendar 2022 was assumed to honour 2022 work, when it actually honours 2021, or because a performer’s most recent win is assumed to be their earliest one. The following performers hold genuine, checkable titles that are routinely mislabelled "2022" online.

Documented, but the ceremony year does not mean what it looks like

BB
Blake Blossom — AVN Best New Starlet, ceremony branded "2022"

The ceremony branded "2022" honours 2021 work, not 2022 — the exact mismatch this article is built to correct. Her actual 2022-work credential in the record built for this article is a later, narrower AVN Best Actress — Featurette win, not the New Starlet title.

ER
Emma Rose — AVN Transgender Performer of the Year

Rose won this title in consecutive ceremonies: the one held in 2023, honouring 2022 work, and the one held in 2024, honouring 2023 work. Cited without a ceremony year attached, the two wins are easy to fold into one. Her 2022-work win would belong on this page; she is not carried here as a full profile because doing so would have pushed this article’s overlap with porn-star-2023 past this programme’s 20% cap.

VK
Vince Karter — AVN Male Foreign Performer of the Year

His outright Foreign Performer of the Year title belongs to the ceremony honouring 2023 work, one year after this article’s scope. His documented 2022-work credential, per the candidate record built for this article, is a narrower scene win instead.

Background

2022 in the adult industry: the year the law was written, not yet felt

Read past the performer rankings and 2022 is the setup year for the industry story the porn-star-2023 sibling article tells in full — the year a state law was written, not yet the year it changed how anyone had to operate.

The law that would take effect the following January

Louisiana’s legislature passed its age-verification requirement for adult websites during 2022, the first state law of its kind to bind site operators directly once it took effect on 1 January 2023. 2022 is the year the law was written; its practical effect on the industry belongs to the following year’s story.

A newcomer class three bodies could agree on

Nicole Doshi’s three-body Best New Starlet sweep and Charly Summer’s AVN Best New Starlet win both landed in the same season, giving 2022 an unusually well-corroborated answer to "who is the new pornstar 2022" — two independently confirmed titles rather than a single body’s call.

What this means for the awards above

Every award cited in this article’s rankings was decided against this backdrop — an industry that had just had its first binding state law written into statute, with the compliance changes still a year away. None of that changes who won; it is the context this specific "best pornstar 2022" keyword otherwise gets ranked without.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Who is the best pornstar of 2022?

Casey Kisses ranks first on our index for 2022, on a full career record that includes AVN and XBIZ Transgender Performer of the Year titles and a Movie of the Year screenplay credit, alongside her narrower 2022-work AVN Favorite Trans Cam Star win. Cherie DeVille ranks second on an outright XBIZ Performer of the Year win, and Sasha Grey ranks third on a double AVN and XRCO Hall of Fame induction.

Does "2022" mean the ceremony held in 2022 or the work released in 2022?

This article means work released and performed during calendar 2022. Because award ceremonies are named for the year they are held rather than the year they honour, that means the AVN, XBIZ and GayVN ceremonies held in January 2023 and the XRCO ceremony held in spring 2023 — not the ceremonies held during 2022 itself, which honour 2021 work. This is stated explicitly because it is the most common error in competing "2022 pornstar" content.

Who won AVN Male Performer of the Year for 2022?

Seth Gamble, at the 40th AVN Awards held in January 2023, confirmed directly against the award’s own winners table. It followed three consecutive AVN Best Actor titles for him between 2019 and 2021.

Who won XBIZ Performer of the Year for 2022?

Cherie DeVille, at the XBIZ Awards 2023, held in January 2023 — XBIZ’s single, un-gendered Performer of the Year title. She had already won AVN MILF Performer of the Year four times by that point.

Who is the new pornstar of 2022?

Nicole Doshi is the clearest case: she swept Best New Starlet from XBIZ, XRCO and NightMoves in the same season, then added an AVN Best Group Sex Scene win. Charly Summer also won AVN Best New Starlet the same year, giving 2022 two independently confirmed newcomer titles rather than one.

Is Vanna Bardot’s three-body sweep a 2022 win?

No. Her AVN, XBIZ and XRCO Female Performer of the Year sweep belongs to the ceremonies honouring 2023 work, one year after this article’s scope. Her genuine 2022-work title is a single XBIZ Female Performer of the Year win, the year before the sweep.

Why does this article stay at a fixed URL instead of updating to a current year?

"Best pornstar 2022" is a fixed historical search term with its own persistent monthly volume — it is not a placeholder that should describe whichever year is current. This URL is the permanent home for that keyword and stays scoped to calendar-2022 work indefinitely; it is re-audited every six months for accuracy, like every other article in this programme, but will never be silently rolled forward to a different year.

Why is Longevity weighted so low on this page?

Because a single calendar year is definitionally not a measure of career length, and several of this list’s strongest entries — Nicole Doshi, Charly Summer, Martina Smeraldi — had 2022-defining years early in relatively short careers. Scoring them against a rubric built for decade-long careers would penalise the exact thing that makes their 2022 significant.

How often is this list updated?

A full re-audit every six months, the programme’s standard cycle, plus a correction pass within fourteen days of any error report. The URL and its calendar-2022 scope do not change between audits — only the accuracy and context of the page do. Every change is logged with a date and a reason in the changelog below.

Methodology · The Pornstar Ranked Performer Index v3.0

How we ranked these performers

A 100-point composite built from six weighted pillars. Four are calculated directly from the performer records - award archives, credit counts, studio breadth and career timelines - by a script, so the same data always produces the same ranking. Two rest partly on editorial judgement, and where an individual score has been set by hand rather than computed, the profile says so and gives the reason. Everything here is auditable against the sources listed on each profile.

Scores are normalised within each article's own field rather than against an absolute ideal. That matters because award ecosystems are not comparable: a Japanese performer is scored against FANZA, AV Open and Sky PerfecTV results, an American one against AVN, XBIZ and XRCO. Ranking them on one absolute scale would be meaningless. A 74 is not a bad score - it is a placement inside a field of people who are already exceptional.

⚖︎

Weights for this category. Longevity falls to 4% from our 10% default, matching the reduction this programme also applies to porn-star-2023, because a year-scoped ranking is definitionally not a measure of career length and scoring this field against a rubric built for decade-long careers would punish several of its strongest entries — Nicole Doshi, Charly Summer, Martina Smeraldi — for the exact thing that makes their 2022 significant: arriving, or breaking through, in one specific season. Recognition rises to 32% from 25% and Demand to 28% from 20% to absorb that weight, because both pillars measure what this article is actually about — a verified award for 2022 work, and documented 2022-era audience and platform interest — rather than career accumulation. Body of Work and Craft are trimmed slightly to keep the total at 100; Influence is left at its default 10%, because Sasha Grey’s mainstream crossover and Abella Danger’s platform-demand record are real events in their own right and deserve their normal weight, not an inflated one.

This article reads "2022" the way the calendar does: work performed and released during 2022, which means the awards that count here are the ones handed out at the 40th AVN Awards, the XBIZ Awards 2023 and the GayVN Awards 2023, all held in January 2023, plus the XRCO Awards 2023, held that spring. Several performers below also hold a title from the ceremony immediately before or after — honouring 2021 or 2023 work instead — and where that happened, their entry says so rather than letting the years blur. Sasha Grey’s career-defining Performer of the Year season, from 2008, is the clearest case: it sits fifteen years outside this article’s scope, and her placement here rests on a Hall of Fame induction instead.

The fifteen names below hold a documented 2022-work award, checked against the candidate record built for this article and, where a performer is profiled elsewhere on the site, against that profile directly. Three performers are already ranked on other pages here and are cross-linked rather than profiled twice. Nicole Doshi and Charly Summer answer the "new pornstar 2022" half of this keyword directly, each with a genuine 2022-work newcomer title. A single year is a snapshot; our fifty-year all-time archive is where the long view lives.

⚠︎

Before you publish this page: This is a year-scoped ranking, and the year itself is the thing most competing pages get wrong: award ceremonies are named for when they are held, not the work they honour, and several titles that circulate as "2022" wins actually belong to the ceremony one year before or after. Every award used as this article’s inclusion basis was checked against the candidate record built for this article and, where available, against the performer’s own content record. Several records here are medium or low confidence, reflecting how recently parts of this field entered the public record — a few performers have no dedicated English-language Wikipedia biography and rest on Wikidata plus a directly checked ceremony reference instead. Verify anything marked medium or low confidence before republishing elsewhere.

Industry Recognition
32%
Computed from records

Awards, nominations and Hall of Fame status.

How it is scored

Calculated by script from the award arrays on each performer record. A Hall of Fame induction is the heaviest single signal, then a Performer of the Year win, then a category win, then any other competitive win, then a nomination at roughly a quarter weight. Lifetime Achievement honours are scored as ordinary wins rather than as Performer of the Year, because Hall of Fame induction already captures career recognition and double-counting it visibly distorted an earlier edition of our all-time list.

Awards are the only independently-audited quality signal this industry produces. They are voted by peers and press, their archives are public, and they are the one input a reader can check without taking our word for anything.

Body of Work
14%
Computed from records

Credit volume, studio breadth and niche-defining titles.

How it is scored

Calculated by script from documented credit count and the number of distinct studios a performer has worked with. Volume is capped logarithmically so that breadth outweighs raw output: a performer with 200 credits across fourteen studios scores above one with 900 for a single network, because fourteen independent buyers agreeing is a stronger signal than one buyer repeating.

This is the pillar that separates a long, in-demand career from a brief, high-visibility moment. Studio breadth is the anti-gaming control: any one studio can push any one performer, but fourteen of them agreeing is signal.

Audience Demand
28%
Blind-scored panel

Branded search interest where we have data; an editorial estimate where we do not.

How it is scored

This is the weakest pillar in the model and we would rather say so than dress it up. Where a performer's own name draws measurable search interest, that measurement is used directly. At present that covers a minority of the performers we have scored. For everyone else the score is seeded from the performer's own computed profile and adjusted editorially, and every seeded value is flagged for review before publication. Any profile whose Demand figure was set by hand rather than measured carries a disclosure saying so.

A best-of list that ignores what audiences actually watch is a critics' list pretending to be a popularity list. We measure demand separately so you can see when a performer is decorated but niche, or hugely popular and under-awarded - but we will not claim precision we do not have.

Craft & Screen Presence
12%
Blind-scored panel

Performance quality, range and screen presence. An editorial judgement.

How it is scored

There is no computable proxy for this in any public record, so it is a judgement made by the editorial desk against the acting-category award record, directorial praise on the record, and the range of production types a performer is cast in. It carries a deliberately capped weight for exactly that reason, and it is shown as its own line on every profile rather than folded invisibly into a total.

We would rather show you a bounded 15% judgement call, labelled as one, than launder taste through a number engineered to look objective.

Longevity & Consistency
4%
Computed from records

Years active, output consistency and successful career restarts.

How it is scored

Calculated by script from documented debut year to the most recent verified release, adjusted for gaps. A performer who left and returned to award-level work scores above one with the same raw year count and no interruption, because a successful restart is harder than continuity. Retired performers are measured to their documented end date, not to today.

This category rewards sustained careers by definition — the performers who define it have usually been working for fifteen years or more. Longevity is the pillar that makes that explicit rather than smuggling it in.

Influence & Crossover
10%
Blind-scored panel

Mainstream reach, business ownership, directing and advocacy.

How it is scored

Seeded by script from counts of documented mainstream credits and business ventures, then reviewed. That proxy works reasonably for modern careers and fails badly for historical ones, so for performers who worked before the award and media record our model reads, the figure is set by hand. Every such case is disclosed on the profile.

Some performers changed what the job is, not just how well it is done. Nina Hartley's sex-education work and Lisa Ann's crossover into sports broadcasting are career facts that a ranking which only counts scenes would completely miss.

The six-step process

1

Define the field

We assemble every performer with verified professional credits in the category and a checkable public record. Each article states how many names were considered and how many were cut.

2

Pull the records

For each performer we pull award-body archives, credit databases, encyclopaedia entries and verified official accounts. Anything we cannot source is recorded as unverified and left out of scoring rather than guessed. Aggregator and AI-generated biography sites are excluded outright - they recycle each other's errors, and they are the reason so much of the award data circulating for this industry is wrong.

3

Compute the record-derived pillars

Recognition, Body of Work and Longevity are calculated by script from the pulled records, normalised within that article's field. No human sets these numbers.

4

Set the judgement pillars

Craft is an editorial score. Demand uses measured audience search interest where we have it and an editorial estimate where we do not. Influence is seeded from documented crossover and business activity, then reviewed by hand.

5

Weight, rank, and sanity-check

Pillar weights are set per article and published on the page, because the question a category asks changes what should count. The desk then reviews the order for failures of common sense - most often performers whose careers predate the award record entirely.

6

Disclose every intervention

Where step 5 changes a score, the affected profile carries a note saying which pillars were altered and why. Where a pillar value is seeded rather than measured, the build reports it. We publish the corrections log rather than editing silently.

✕ Who we exclude, and why

  • Performers with credible unresolved allegations of coercion, assault or trafficking. A ranking is an endorsement of a professional record, and we will not extend one where consent is in question.
  • Anyone whose age at the time of any listed credit cannot be independently verified as 18 or over.
  • Performers who have publicly asked to be left off editorial rankings. Removal requests are honoured without argument and without requiring a reason.
  • Content, imagery or links sourced from leaks, hacks or non-consensual distribution — regardless of how widely circulated it is elsewhere.

△ Where this model is weak

  • Demand is our weakest inputWe have measured audience search interest for only a minority of the performers scored so far. The rest carry editorial estimates. This is the pillar most likely to move as our measurement of audience demand widens.
  • Award archives favour recent, American productionAVN, XBIZ and XRCO are US bodies founded in the 1980s and 1990s. Performers who worked earlier, or outside the United States, are structurally disadvantaged by the Recognition pillar. We correct for it by hand and disclose each correction, which is a fix but not a solution.
  • Craft is a judgement, and judgements varyOne informed desk scoring against the acting-award record is better than asserting an order with no reasoning, but it is still a view. It is capped at 15% and shown separately for that reason.
  • Pre-2000 credit counts are unreliableOlder releases are documented far less consistently than modern ones, which understates the output of long careers. The Longevity pillar partly offsets this; it does not fully correct it.
  • Normalisation means scores are not cross-comparableAn 88 on our Japanese ranking and an 88 on our MILF ranking are not the same achievement. Each score positions a performer within her own field, and comparing across articles is not a use these numbers support.

Corrections and update log

Factual corrections are made within 48 hours of verification and logged, dated and described at the foot of the article. Changes to the scoring model itself are logged the same way - when we found that Lifetime Achievement honours were being scored as Performer of the Year wins, we published the fix and the resulting rank changes rather than quietly re-running the build. Cadence: Full re-audit every six months; award pillars updated within 14 days of each major awards ceremony. Next full audit: 2027-02-20.

What changed in this edition

  • First edition. Fifteen performers scored on the Pornstar Ranked Performer Index v2.1, re-weighted for a category where a calendar year, not a career, is the unit of measurement — the same weighting this programme applies to porn-star-2023.
  • Longevity cut to 4%, matching the largest single-pillar reduction anywhere in this programme; Recognition and Demand raised to 32% and 28% to absorb it. The reasoning is published in full in pillarWeightNote above.
  • Annual-refresh policy, stated plainly: this page’s URL stays fixed and scoped to calendar-2022 work permanently. It will not be renamed or rolled forward to a different year — "best pornstar 2022" is a fixed historical search term, not a placeholder for whichever year is current.
  • The ceremony-year distinction is enforced on every entry: where a performer’s best-known title actually honours 2021 work (Casey Kisses’s AVN and XBIZ Transgender Performer of the Year) or 2023 work (Vanna Bardot’s three-body sweep, Agatha Vega’s XBIZ Europa Performer of the Year, Seth Gamble’s XBIZ Performer of the Year, Christian Clay’s repeat XBIZ Europa win), that is stated directly rather than folded silently into a "2022" claim.
  • A dedicated breakthrough thread runs through this edition for readers searching "new pornstar 2022" specifically: Nicole Doshi’s three-body Best New Starlet sweep and Charly Summer’s AVN Best New Starlet win are both full entries, not near-misses, and are grouped together in subLists below.
2026-09-06
edition

First edition published. Fifteen performers scored on Index v2.1 with year-scoped weights: Recognition 32%, Demand 28%, Longevity cut to 4%.

2026-09-06
note

Ceremony-year convention adopted and stated on the page: "2022" means calendar-2022 work, honoured at the AVN, XBIZ and GayVN ceremonies held January 2023 and the XRCO ceremony held spring 2023, not the ceremonies held during 2022 itself.

2026-09-06
correction

Several widely circulated "2022 pornstar" claims traced to a ceremony-year mislabelling rather than a fabrication — Blake Blossom, Emma Rose and Vince Karter each hold a real title that honours a different year, and are named in the near-misses section with the correct year rather than either silently ranked or silently dropped.

2026-09-06
note

Roster overlap kept at or under the programme’s 20% cap against every other single article: 3 of 15 shared with porn-star-2023, 3 with teen-pornstars, 3 with pornhub-pornstars. Emma Rose, Aidra Fox and Little Caprice were left off this edition specifically to stay under that cap; Martina Smeraldi, Casey Kisses and Agatha Vega fill their slots.

2026-09-06
note

Annual-refresh policy published: this URL stays fixed and scoped to calendar-2022 permanently rather than being replaced by a new dated URL each year, and is re-audited on the programme’s standard six-month cycle.
