Porn Star 2023: The Performers Who Defined the Year, Ranked

Type "porn star 2023" into a search bar and you get two different questions tangled into one keyword, and almost no page on the results separates them.

One question is which ceremony honoured 2023 work — and that has a precise, checkable answer, because award bodies are named for the year they hold their ceremony, not the year of work they reward.

The 41st AVN Awards and the XBIZ Awards 2024 were both held in January 2024, and both honoured releases from calendar 2023.

The other question is which performer actually had the year — and that is where most competing lists quietly go wrong, crediting a 2023-ceremony win (which honours 2022 work) to "2023" because the ceremony happened to say so on the trophy.

The short answer

Maitland Ward ranks first for porn star 2023 on our index. The former Boy Meets World and Bold and the Beautiful actress won AVN Best Actress – Featurette for her 2023 work, and her full crossover and acting-award record — built across both mainstream television and five years of adult-industry honours — outweighs any single-award case on this list. Vanna Bardot ranks second, the only performer confirmed to have swept Female Performer of the Year at AVN, XBIZ and XRCO in the same season for 2023 work. Kira Noir ranks third with an AVN Best Actress win for Machine Gunner.

Why Maitland ranks 1st

Ward played Rachel McGuire on Boy Meets World and Jessica Forrester on The Bold and the Beautiful before retiring from mainstream acting and entering adult film in 2019, a transition she documented in her 2022 memoir Rated X — the crossover that ranks her second on our Hollywood porn stars roll.

Her most decorated adult season, built around the film Drift, was honoured at the ceremony for 2022 work — one year before this article’s scope.

Her actual 2023-work credential is narrower but real: AVN Best Actress – Featurette for Casting Couch: My DP 6, won at the 41st AVN Awards in January 2024, confirmed directly against that ceremony’s own winners list.

The mainstream-to-adult crossover story is one of the most heavily covered individual narratives in 2023-era trade and entertainment press, and her record is one of the few in that category that holds up against the ceremony pages rather than just the headlines.

The case against: Her career-peak season, built around Drift, was honoured at the ceremony for 2022 work rather than 2023 — the win that actually anchors her here is a single Featurette-category title, not her strongest year.

Born Ashley Maitland Welkos in Long Beach, California, she played Jessica Forrester in 129 episodes of the CBS daytime serial The Bold and the Beautiful between 1994 and 1996, winning a Young Artist Award for the role in 1995, then joined the main cast of ABC’s Boy Meets World as Rachel McGuire for 45 episodes from 1998 to 2000. Her best-known feature credit is Brittany Wilson in the 2004 Wayans Brothers comedy White Chicks. She began posting nude photography to social media from mid-2013, signed with the Society 15 agency in May 2019, and made her adult debut that September in Drive, directed by Kayden Kross for Deeper. She has won AVN Best Actress or Best Supporting Actress four times and XBIZ lead-acting awards in four separate years.

Signature: She is the only person on either side of this page to hold both a Young Artist Award for network television and multiple AVN and XBIZ acting awards, and the only one to have written a book making the crossing itself the subject.

Why Vanna ranks 2nd

Bardot’s 2023 is the single cleanest case this article has: she is the only performer confirmed to hold Female Performer of the Year from all three major bodies — AVN, XBIZ and XRCO — for the same season, at the three ceremonies held between January and spring 2024 that honoured calendar-2023 work.

She had already won XBIZ’s title once before, at the ceremony honouring 2022 work, so 2023 was her second consecutive XBIZ crown as well as her first from AVN and XRCO.

A former hairstylist and club dancer from Miami — the background that also ranks her second on the best figure pornstars list — who debuted in 2018 and signed an exclusive contract with Slayed, a Vixen Media Group label, in 2022, she went into 2023 already established and came out of it the only performer in the field with a genuine three-body sweep.

The case against: The sweep is her whole case — she holds no acting-specific award to sit alongside the overall title, and the run sits on top of a five-year career rather than a longer one.

Bardot worked as a hairstylist from fifteen to eighteen and then as a ballet and club dancer in Miami before beginning to perform in 2018, at nineteen. In 2022 she signed an exclusive contract with Slayed, a Vixen Media Group label. She won XBIZ Female Performer of the Year in 2023 and then swept the title at AVN, XBIZ and XRCO in 2024 — the only performer on this page to hold all three in the same season. Wikipedia lists twenty-two award entries for her between 2021 and 2026.

Why Kira ranks 3rd

Noir’s clearest 2023-work credential is AVN Best Actress for Machine Gunner, won at the 41st AVN Awards in January 2024. That sits alongside a genuinely 2023 business event, not just an award-season one: she signed an exclusive Brazzers contract during calendar 2023 itself.

Her single biggest title, AVN Female Performer of the Year, was won at the ceremony honouring 2022 work, one year before this article’s scope — so her presence here rests on the Best Actress win and the contract signing rather than the top prize.

She had also taken Best Supporting Actress three years running, 2021 through 2023, and in 2025 was elected to the board of PASS, the Free Speech Coalition’s performer-screening body; she is also ranked on the TikTok pornstar rankings.

The case against: Her single biggest honour — Female Performer of the Year — belongs to the ceremony for 2022 work, not 2023; what carries her into this list is the Best Actress win and the Brazzers signing rather than the top individual title.

Noir was born in California, raised in Nashville and began performing in 2014 at nineteen or twenty. Her record is unusual in this category for being built on acting categories rather than scene ones: Best Supporting Actress at AVN three years running from 2021 to 2023, Female Performer of the Year in 2023, and Best Leading Actress in 2024. She signed an exclusive Brazzers contract in 2023, digitally hosted the 38th AVN Awards in 2021, and in 2025 was elected to the board of directors of PASS, the Free Speech Coalition’s performer screening service — the only person on this list holding an industry governance role.

Why Seth ranks 4th

Gamble’s 2023-work honour is different in kind from most of this field’s: XBIZ’s Performer of the Year, the ceremony’s one outright top prize rather than a category split by gender, awarded at the XBIZ Awards held in January 2024 and confirmed directly against XBIZ’s own published winners list.

He had already won AVN Male Performer of the Year the year before, for 2022 work, on the back of three straight AVN Best Actor titles from 2019 to 2021 — so 2023 extended an already-decorated run into a second body’s highest honour rather than starting one.

He also directs and produces, and is married to fellow performer Kenzie Taylor — a documented performer marriage of the kind the married pornstars we rank records.

The case against: He has no dedicated Wikipedia biography, and his AVN top title, while real, belongs to the ceremony honouring 2022 work — his 2023-work recognition rests on XBIZ alone.

Why Vince ranks 5th

Karter, a French performer with no reliably documented debut year, won AVN Male Foreign Performer of the Year at the 41st AVN Awards in January 2024, for his 2023 work, along with two further scene wins the same night — all confirmed directly against AVN’s own category pages.

What makes the case distinctive is what followed: he took the outright, un-qualified AVN Male Performer of the Year title in each of the next two years, 2025 and 2026, the fastest foreign-category-to-overall-title conversion documented for this field — the run that also puts him on the top pornstars 2025 page. The 2023 win reads differently once you know where it led.

The case against: His exact birthplace and debut year are undocumented, and the two outright Male Performer of the Year titles that make his trajectory notable honour 2024 and 2025 work — after this article’s scope, not within it.

Why Tommy ranks 6th

Pistol is a veteran performer — by his own account the first male performer signed to Joanna Angel’s BurningAngel.com, in late 2005 — whose 2023 work produced a same-ceremony double at the 41st AVN Awards: Best Actor for Feed Me and Best Actor – Featurette for We Are Alone Now, both confirmed directly against that ceremony’s own winners list.

He had already won the outright AVN Male Performer of the Year title the year before, for 2021 work, and hosted the AVN Awards in 2015 — he is also ranked on our beauty-standard index.

Two acting wins in one night, for two different releases, is a specific and checkable form of range that a single award does not demonstrate.

The case against: Neither 2023-work win is the top overall title — both are acting-category wins, and he already holds the flagship Male Performer of the Year honour from an earlier year.

Rose won AVN Transgender Performer of the Year in both 2023 (honouring 2022 work) and 2024 (honouring 2023 work), a back-to-back title confirmed directly against that award’s own Wikipedia winners table, and added XBIZ’s equivalent Transsexual/Transgender Performer of the Year for 2023 work the same season, confirmed against XBIZ’s own page — two bodies agreeing on the same year.

She transitioned in 2017, began performing in 2020 and signed an exclusive contract with TransAngels the following year. She has also spoken publicly as an activist against unregulated cosmetic surgery among transgender women, stating in 2023 that she had spent over $100,000 on procedures of her own.

The case against: No birth date or birthplace is published anywhere for her — the thinnest personal-biography record on this list, even though the award itself is doubly confirmed across two bodies.

Why Chanel ranks 8th

Camryn is the clearest debut story this article covers: she won Best New Starlet from both AVN and XRCO at the ceremonies honouring 2023 work, confirmed independently against each body’s own winners list — two juries agreeing on the same newcomer in the same season — the sweep that also ranks her second on the new pornstars ranking.

What happened next matters for reading the win correctly: the following year she converted it into XRCO’s Female Performer of the Year outright, the fastest newcomer-to-top-title jump documented anywhere on this site for the category.

That conversion happened after this article’s 2023 scope, but it confirms the 2023 sweep was picking up on something real rather than a weak field.

The case against: Both 2023-work titles are newcomer-category wins rather than the top overall prize, and her career was barely a year old when the ceremonies that honoured it were held.

Chanel Camryn debuted in 2022 and won Best New Starlet from both AVN and XRCO in 2024. The following year she won XRCO’s Female Performer of the Year outright — the fastest documented Best New Starlet-to-top-title conversion in this field’s 2018–2026 window — and added further AVN and XBIZ scene wins across 2025 and 2026.

Why Aidra ranks 9th

Fox debuted in 2013 and holds one of the longest continuous AVN scene-award records in this field, with wins in six separate seasons between 2015 and 2021 alone.

Her 2023-work credential is a Best All-Girl Group Sex Scene win, shared with Blake Blossom and Vanessa Sky, at the 41st AVN Awards in January 2024, confirmed directly against that ceremony’s own winners list.

She has no English-language Wikipedia biography despite the length of the record — her Wikidata entry carries sitelinks in eleven other languages, one of several performers on this page whose absence from English Wikipedia reflects the platform’s 2019 notability-policy change rather than anything about the underlying record.

The case against: Her single 2023-work win is a shared group-scene category rather than an individual or top-tier title, and most of the award weight behind her name comes from seasons before this article’s scope.

Why Derek ranks 10th

Kage won XBIZ Gay Performer of the Year at the ceremony held in January 2024, for his 2023 work, then repeated the win in each of the following two years — a three-peat confirmed directly against the award’s own entries on XBIZ’s winners page — the title the gay pornstars we track are ranked on.

His separate Wikidata record lists only the two later wins and omits the 2023-work one this article relies on; the ceremony’s own winners page lists all three individually, and that is the source used here.

The case against: He has no dedicated Wikipedia biography, his debut year is undocumented, and his personal details rest entirely on Wikidata — a source that, on this same page, is separately shown to have missed one of his three verified wins.

Why Gizelle ranks 11th

Blanco won XBIZ Girl/Girl Performer of the Year at the ceremony held in January 2024, for her 2023 work, confirmed directly against XBIZ’s own published winners list.

It is a category-specific title rather than an overall one — the one the lesbian pornstar roll reads — but it is a genuine Performer of the Year designation from a major body, not a scene-level or fan-voted honour, and it is the clearest documented recognition in her public record.

The case against: Beyond the single award, her public record is thin — no dedicated Wikipedia biography, no itemised studio list, and no other major-body recognition found in any source checked.

Why Cherry ranks 12th

Kiss, a Belgrade-born performer working since 2011, won AVN Female Foreign Performer of the Year at the 41st AVN Awards in January 2024, for her 2023 work — a title Little Caprice had held for the three ceremonies immediately before it, confirmed directly against that category’s own Wikipedia winners table.

She added NightMoves Best Female Performer the same season. The Foreign Performer categories exist specifically to recognise work released outside the American studio system, which makes her win a different kind of signal than a domestic scene or acting award.

The case against: She has no dedicated English Wikipedia biography, and her studio affiliations and total credit count are not itemised in any source checked for this record.

Why Isiah ranks 13th

Maxwell’s AVN Male Performer of the Year win, at the 41st AVN Awards in January 2024 for his 2023 work, is confirmed directly against the award’s own Wikipedia winners table and ends a specific, checkable gap: Lexington Steele’s win in 2003 was the last time a Black performer took the category, meaning twenty consecutive ceremonies passed before Maxwell’s.

He did not arrive at the top prize without a build-up — Best Gangbang Sex Scene in 2022 and again in 2023, and Best Group Sex Scene the same year — and he kept winning afterwards, taking Best Group Sex Scene again in 2025. That is a three-season run of scene-category wins converting into the top individual title, then continuing past it.

The case against: He has no dedicated Wikipedia biography and no documented debut year, and his pre-2022 scene-win record is sourced only to Wikidata rather than independently cross-checked against each ceremony’s own page.

Maxwell's AVN Male Performer of the Year win at the 41st AVN Awards in 2024 is independently confirmed against the award's own Wikipedia winners list, and it ends a specific, checkable gap: Lexington Steele's 2003 win was the previous time a Black performer took the category, meaning twenty consecutive ceremonies passed with no Black winner before Maxwell's. Why Victoria ranks 14th

Voxxx’s strongest documented season is a same-film, two-body double: Best Supporting Actress for Primary 3 at both the AVN and XBIZ ceremonies held in January 2024, each confirmed independently against that body’s own winners list. She had taken a NightMoves newcomer honour in 2019 and an AVN scene award in 2021 before it.

Two separate juries reaching the same verdict on the same performance, in the same season, is a stronger signal than either win taken alone — and she is also ranked among the dirty talking pornstars roll.

The case against: She has no dedicated Wikipedia biography, her debut year is inferred rather than documented, and neither of her 2023-work wins is an overall or lead-category title.

What "porn star 2023" means, and the trap in the question

Award ceremonies in this industry are named for the year they are held, not the year of work they reward. The 41st AVN Awards were held in January 2024 and honoured films and scenes released during 2023. The 40th AVN Awards, held one year earlier in January 2023, honoured 2022 work. Say "the 2023 AVN Awards" without specifying which convention you mean and you can be talking about either ceremony — and a genuine share of the pages ranking for this keyword pick whichever one hands them a more famous name, without stating which they mean at all.

This article picks one convention and states it once, here: "2023" means calendar-2023 work — performances, scenes and releases made during 2023, regardless of when the trophy for them was physically handed out. In practice that means the AVN and XBIZ ceremonies held in January 2024, and the XRCO ceremony held in spring 2024. It does not mean the ceremonies held during calendar 2023 itself, which is the more intuitive but incorrect reading and the one that produces most of the wrong "2023 pornstar of the year" claims circulating online.

That distinction is not academic on this list. Vanna Bardot's XBIZ Female Performer of the Year win at the January 2023 ceremony honours 2022 work and is not what earns her a high placement here; her AVN, XBIZ and XRCO sweep at the ceremonies held across early-to-mid 2024, for 2023 work, is. Kira Noir's AVN Female Performer of the Year — arguably her single biggest career title — was won at the ceremony for 2022 work and sits one year outside this article's scope; her actual 2023-work credential is a narrower Best Actress win, and her entry says so rather than borrowing the bigger title's shine.

Every award used as this article's inclusion basis was checked directly against that specific award's own Wikipedia category page or the relevant ceremony's own winners list — not against Wikidata alone, and not against any aggregator. Derek Kage's Wikidata entry lists only two of his three consecutive XBIZ Gay Performer of the Year wins, omitting the 2023-work one this article relies on. The ceremony's own page carries all three, cited individually. Wikidata was wrong here, and the primary source settled the question.

TermWhat it meansHow it differs
Ceremony yearThe calendar year an award show was physically held — what appears in a ceremony’s ordinal name, e.g. the "41st AVN Awards".Not the same as the year of the work being honoured, which is almost always the year before.
Honoured yearThe calendar year the nominated films, scenes and performances were actually released or performed — 2023, for every award this article treats as its inclusion basis. What this article means by "2023 work", stated explicitly on every entry where the distinction matters.
41st AVN AwardsHeld 27 January 2024; honours 2023 releases. The single most-cited ceremony on this page.Distinct from the 40th AVN Awards, held January 2023, which honours 2022 work and is cited here only as career context, never as an inclusion basis.
XBIZ Awards 2024Held January 2024; honours 2023 releases, including the ceremony’s single, gender-neutral Performer of the Year title. Not to be confused with "XBIZ Awards 2023", the prior ceremony, which honours 2022 work.
Foreign Performer of the YearAVN’s separate Male and Female categories recognising the strongest work released outside the American studio system.A category-specific Performer of the Year title, not the flagship un-qualified award — both Cherry Kiss and Vince Karter hold the foreign version for 2023 work.
Context

2023: the year the age-verification wave started, and the awards it produced

January 2023

Louisiana opens the age-verification wave

Louisiana’s age-verification requirement for adult websites took effect on 1 January 2023, the first state law of its kind to bind operators rather than merely recommend the practice. It drove rapid adoption of LA Wallet, the state’s digital-ID app, as the verification method site operators would accept. Everything that follows in 2023’s industry story — the platform blackouts, the legal challenges, the trade-press coverage — traces back to this one law taking effect in January.

May–June 2023

Utah and Texas follow, and Pornhub blocks a state for the first time

Utah passed its own age-verification requirement in May 2023. Days before it took effect, Pornhub blocked access to its site from Utah entirely, displaying a message criticising the legislation rather than complying — the platform’s first state-level blackout of this kind, and a tactic it would reuse repeatedly as more states passed similar laws over the following two years. Texas followed in June 2023 with HB 1181, mandating age verification and health warnings before access; a federal court initially struck part of it down, and the law’s constitutionality was not settled until a 2025 Supreme Court ruling upheld it.

Throughout 2023

The industry as a news story, not just a search term

Money Shot: The Pornhub Story, a Netflix documentary examining the opposition campaigns against the platform and the performers caught up in them, released in 2023 and became one of the year’s most-discussed pieces of trade-adjacent media coverage. Maitland Ward’s mainstream-to-adult crossover — a former Boy Meets World cast member with an established AVN and XBIZ acting record — drew a comparable volume of entertainment-press coverage across the year, the kind of story that made "porn star 2023" a real news-cycle keyword rather than only a ranking-list one.

January–spring 2024

The awards that actually honour 2023 land

The ceremonies that settle who had 2023 were held across the following season: the 41st AVN Awards on 27 January 2024, the XBIZ Awards 2024 the same month, and XRCO’s ceremony in spring 2024. Between them they produced a three-body Female Performer of the Year sweep, the first Black AVN Male Performer of the Year winner since 2003, and XBIZ’s first single-body, gender-neutral Performer of the Year title awarded on this page — alongside the mainstream-crossover acting record that ultimately outscores all three.

Editorial process

Names that circulate for "2023" but honour a different year

The single most common error attached to this keyword is a real, verifiable award attributed to the wrong year — usually because a ceremony held during calendar 2023 was assumed to honour 2023 work, when it actually honours 2022. The following performers hold genuine, checkable titles that are routinely mislabelled "2023" online.

Documented, but the ceremony year does not mean what it looks like

AW
Angela White, Vanna Bardot and Kira Noir — AVN/XBIZ Female Performer of the Year at the January 2023 ceremony

The 40th AVN Awards and the XBIZ Awards 2023 were both held in January 2023, and both honour 2022 releases, not 2023 ones. Bardot and Noir are ranked above on the strength of their genuinely 2023-honouring titles instead; Angela White does not have a 2023-work AVN or XBIZ Performer of the Year win and is not ranked on this page for that reason.

ND
Nicole Doshi and Jane Wilde — 2023-ceremony newcomer and Performer of the Year titles

Doshi’s three-body Best New Starlet sweep and Wilde’s XRCO Female Performer of the Year both belong to ceremonies held in 2023, honouring 2022 work. Chanel Camryn’s equivalent 2023-honouring sweep, at the ceremonies held in 2024, is ranked above in her place.

Won at the ceremony honouring 2022 work. He also holds an AVN Hall of Fame induction announced at the 2024 ceremony, but induction recognises career achievement rather than a single year’s output, and is not treated as a 2023-work credential on this page.

Background

2023 in the adult industry: the year age verification became law

Read past the performer rankings and 2023 is a genuine, well-documented news year for the industry itself — arguably more consequential to how the business operates today than any single award season.

Louisiana opened the door on 1 January

Louisiana’s requirement that adult websites verify a visitor’s age took effect at the start of the year, the first state law of its kind to bind site operators directly. It drove rapid adoption of LA Wallet, the state’s digital-ID app, as the accepted verification method, and set the template every state that followed would adapt.

Utah, then Texas, then a wave

Utah’s law, passed in May 2023, prompted Pornhub to block the entire state rather than comply — a tactic the platform would repeat in state after state over the following two years. Texas passed HB 1181 the following month, mandating both age verification and health warnings; its constitutionality was contested through the courts until the Supreme Court upheld it in 2025, two years after the law itself passed.

Platform geo-blocking as a protest tactic, not just compliance

Pornhub’s Utah blackout was framed explicitly as protest rather than resignation — a display message criticised the law rather than simply redirecting traffic to a verification flow. That choice, made in 2023, established geo-blocking as the platform’s default response to new state laws rather than an exception.

The industry became a mainstream documentary subject

Money Shot: The Pornhub Story released on Netflix in 2023, examining anti-trafficking campaigns against the platform and interviewing performers directly affected by them. It sits alongside Maitland Ward’s crossover coverage as evidence that 2023 generated real mainstream press attention on the industry’s own terms, not only performer-ranking content.

What this means for the awards above

Every award cited in this article’s rankings was decided against this backdrop — an industry navigating its first binding state verification law, a major platform’s first blocking response to one, and unusually heavy mainstream press attention. None of that changes who won; it is the context competing "porn star 2023" pages leave out entirely.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Who is the best porn star of 2023?

Maitland Ward ranks first on our index for 2023. Her AVN Best Actress – Featurette win for her 2023 work sits on top of a full record — mainstream television roles on Boy Meets World and The Bold and the Beautiful, plus five years of adult-industry acting honours — that outscores any single-award case on this list. Vanna Bardot ranks second on the strength of her AVN, XBIZ and XRCO Female Performer of the Year sweep for 2023 work, and Kira Noir ranks third.

Does "2023" mean the ceremony held in 2023 or the work released in 2023?

This article means work released and performed during calendar 2023. Because award ceremonies are named for the year they are held rather than the year they honour, that means the AVN and XBIZ ceremonies held in January 2024 and the XRCO ceremony held in spring 2024 — not the ceremonies held during 2023 itself, which honour 2022 work. This is stated explicitly because it is the most common error in competing "2023 pornstar" content.

Who won AVN Male Performer of the Year for 2023?

Isiah Maxwell, at the 41st AVN Awards held 27 January 2024, confirmed directly against the award’s own Wikipedia winners table. It was the first time a Black performer had won the category since Lexington Steele in 2003, a twenty-one-ceremony gap.

Who won XBIZ Performer of the Year for 2023?

Seth Gamble, at the XBIZ Awards 2024, held in January 2024. Unlike AVN’s equivalent, XBIZ’s Performer of the Year is a single, gender-neutral title rather than one split into male and female categories.

Is Angela White’s 2023 AVN win for 2023 work?

No. The 40th AVN Awards, held in January 2023, honour 2022 releases. If Angela White holds a Female Performer of the Year title from that ceremony, it credits her 2022 work, not 2023 — which is why she is not ranked on this specific page even though she is a major figure elsewhere in this programme.

What state age-verification laws took effect in 2023?

Louisiana’s took effect 1 January 2023, the first of its kind. Utah passed its own in May 2023, prompting Pornhub to block the entire state in protest days before the law took effect. Texas followed in June 2023 with HB 1181, mandating both age verification and health warnings; its constitutionality was not fully settled until the Supreme Court upheld it in 2025.

Why does this article stay at a fixed URL instead of updating to a current year?

"Porn star 2023" is a fixed historical search term with its own persistent monthly volume — it is not a placeholder that should describe whichever year is current. This URL is the permanent home for that keyword and stays scoped to calendar-2023 work indefinitely; it is re-audited every six months for accuracy, like every other article in this programme, but will never be silently rolled forward to a different year.

Why is Longevity weighted so low on this page?

Because a single calendar year is definitionally not a measure of career length, and several of this list’s strongest entries — Chanel Camryn, Nicole Kitt, Victoria Voxxx — had 2023-defining years early in relatively short careers. Scoring them against a rubric built for decade-long careers would penalise the exact thing that makes their 2023 significant.

Who debuted or broke out in 2023?

Chanel Camryn is the clearest case: she swept AVN and XRCO Best New Starlet for her 2023 work, then converted it into XRCO Female Performer of the Year outright the following year — the fastest newcomer-to-top-title conversion tracked anywhere in this programme.

How often is this list updated?

A full re-audit every six months, the programme’s standard cycle, plus a correction pass within fourteen days of any error report. The URL and its calendar-2023 scope do not change between audits — only the accuracy and context of the page do. Every change is logged with a date and a reason in the changelog below.

Methodology · The Pornstar Ranked Performer Index v3.0

How we ranked these performers

A 100-point composite built from six weighted pillars. Four are calculated directly from the performer records - award archives, credit counts, studio breadth and career timelines - by a script, so the same data always produces the same ranking. Two rest partly on editorial judgement, and where an individual score has been set by hand rather than computed, the profile says so and gives the reason. Everything here is auditable against the sources listed on each profile.

Scores are normalised within each article's own field rather than against an absolute ideal. That matters because award ecosystems are not comparable: a Japanese performer is scored against FANZA, AV Open and Sky PerfecTV results, an American one against AVN, XBIZ and XRCO. Ranking them on one absolute scale would be meaningless. A 74 is not a bad score - it is a placement inside a field of people who are already exceptional.

⚖︎

Weights for this category. Longevity falls to 4% from our 10% default — the largest cut of any pillar on any article in this programme — because a year-scoped ranking is definitionally not a measure of career length, and scoring this field against a rubric built for decade-long careers would punish several of its strongest entries (Chanel Camryn, Nicole Kitt, Victoria Voxxx) for the exact thing that makes their 2023 significant: arriving, or re-arriving, in one specific season. Recognition rises to 32% from 25% and Demand to 28% from 20% to absorb that weight, because both pillars measure what this article is actually about — a verified award for 2023 work, and documented 2023-era audience and press interest — rather than career accumulation. Body of Work and Craft are trimmed slightly to keep the total at 100; Influence is left at its default 10%, because mainstream crossover (Maitland Ward) and business signings (Kira Noir, Vanna Bardot) are real 2023 events in their own right and deserve their normal weight, not an inflated one.

This article resolves both questions the same way throughout: "2023" means work performed and released during calendar 2023, which means the awards that count here are the ones handed out at the ceremonies held in January and spring 2024. Several performers on this list also hold a title from the ceremony immediately before — the one actually honouring 2022 — and where that happened, their entry says so explicitly rather than letting the two years blur together. Maitland Ward's career-peak season, built around the film Drift, is one of those cases: it was honoured a year before this article's scope, and her placement here rests instead on a narrower, later win that the ceremony pages confirm belongs to 2023.

The fifteen names below hold a documented 2023-work award, a documented 2023 debut or contract signing, or both, checked against each award's own ceremony or category page rather than against Wikidata or an aggregator alone. Four performers are already ranked on other pages on this site and are cross-linked here rather than profiled twice, so their record stays one consistent set of facts rather than two that could drift apart. A single year is a snapshot; our fifty-year all-time archive is where the long view lives.

⚠︎

Before you publish this page: This is a year-scoped ranking, and the year itself is the thing most competing pages get wrong: award ceremonies are named for when they are held, not the work they honour, and several titles that circulate as "2023" wins actually belong to the ceremony one year earlier. Every award used as this article’s inclusion basis was checked directly against that award’s own Wikipedia category or ceremony page. Ten of fifteen records are medium or low confidence, reflecting how recently most of this field entered the public record — several performers here have no dedicated Wikipedia biography and rest on Wikidata plus a directly verified ceremony page instead. Verify anything marked medium or low confidence before republishing elsewhere.

Industry Recognition
32%
Computed from records

Awards, nominations and Hall of Fame status.

How it is scored

Calculated by script from the award arrays on each performer record. A Hall of Fame induction is the heaviest single signal, then a Performer of the Year win, then a category win, then any other competitive win, then a nomination at roughly a quarter weight. Lifetime Achievement honours are scored as ordinary wins rather than as Performer of the Year, because Hall of Fame induction already captures career recognition and double-counting it visibly distorted an earlier edition of our all-time list.

Awards are the only independently-audited quality signal this industry produces. They are voted by peers and press, their archives are public, and they are the one input a reader can check without taking our word for anything.

Body of Work
14%
Computed from records

Credit volume, studio breadth and niche-defining titles.

How it is scored

Calculated by script from documented credit count and the number of distinct studios a performer has worked with. Volume is capped logarithmically so that breadth outweighs raw output: a performer with 200 credits across fourteen studios scores above one with 900 for a single network, because fourteen independent buyers agreeing is a stronger signal than one buyer repeating.

This is the pillar that separates a long, in-demand career from a brief, high-visibility moment. Studio breadth is the anti-gaming control: any one studio can push any one performer, but fourteen of them agreeing is signal.

Audience Demand
28%
Blind-scored panel

Branded search interest where we have data; an editorial estimate where we do not.

How it is scored

This is the weakest pillar in the model and we would rather say so than dress it up. Where a performer's own name draws measurable search interest, that measurement is used directly. At present that covers a minority of the performers we have scored. For everyone else the score is seeded from the performer's own computed profile and adjusted editorially, and every seeded value is flagged for review before publication. Any profile whose Demand figure was set by hand rather than measured carries a disclosure saying so.

A best-of list that ignores what audiences actually watch is a critics' list pretending to be a popularity list. We measure demand separately so you can see when a performer is decorated but niche, or hugely popular and under-awarded - but we will not claim precision we do not have.

Craft & Screen Presence
12%
Blind-scored panel

Performance quality, range and screen presence. An editorial judgement.

How it is scored

There is no computable proxy for this in any public record, so it is a judgement made by the editorial desk against the acting-category award record, directorial praise on the record, and the range of production types a performer is cast in. It carries a deliberately capped weight for exactly that reason, and it is shown as its own line on every profile rather than folded invisibly into a total.

We would rather show you a bounded 15% judgement call, labelled as one, than launder taste through a number engineered to look objective.

Longevity & Consistency
4%
Computed from records

Years active, output consistency and successful career restarts.

How it is scored

Calculated by script from documented debut year to the most recent verified release, adjusted for gaps. A performer who left and returned to award-level work scores above one with the same raw year count and no interruption, because a successful restart is harder than continuity. Retired performers are measured to their documented end date, not to today.

This category rewards sustained careers by definition — the performers who define it have usually been working for fifteen years or more. Longevity is the pillar that makes that explicit rather than smuggling it in.

Influence & Crossover
10%
Blind-scored panel

Mainstream reach, business ownership, directing and advocacy.

How it is scored

Seeded by script from counts of documented mainstream credits and business ventures, then reviewed. That proxy works reasonably for modern careers and fails badly for historical ones, so for performers who worked before the award and media record our model reads, the figure is set by hand. Every such case is disclosed on the profile.

Some performers changed what the job is, not just how well it is done. Nina Hartley's sex-education work and Lisa Ann's crossover into sports broadcasting are career facts that a ranking which only counts scenes would completely miss.

The six-step process

1

Define the field

We assemble every performer with verified professional credits in the category and a checkable public record. Each article states how many names were considered and how many were cut.

2

Pull the records

For each performer we pull award-body archives, credit databases, encyclopaedia entries and verified official accounts. Anything we cannot source is recorded as unverified and left out of scoring rather than guessed. Aggregator and AI-generated biography sites are excluded outright - they recycle each other's errors, and they are the reason so much of the award data circulating for this industry is wrong.

3

Compute the record-derived pillars

Recognition, Body of Work and Longevity are calculated by script from the pulled records, normalised within that article's field. No human sets these numbers.

4

Set the judgement pillars

Craft is an editorial score. Demand uses measured audience search interest where we have it and an editorial estimate where we do not. Influence is seeded from documented crossover and business activity, then reviewed by hand.

5

Weight, rank, and sanity-check

Pillar weights are set per article and published on the page, because the question a category asks changes what should count. The desk then reviews the order for failures of common sense - most often performers whose careers predate the award record entirely.

6

Disclose every intervention

Where step 5 changes a score, the affected profile carries a note saying which pillars were altered and why. Where a pillar value is seeded rather than measured, the build reports it. We publish the corrections log rather than editing silently.

✕ Who we exclude, and why

  • Performers with credible unresolved allegations of coercion, assault or trafficking. A ranking is an endorsement of a professional record, and we will not extend one where consent is in question.
  • Anyone whose age at the time of any listed credit cannot be independently verified as 18 or over.
  • Performers who have publicly asked to be left off editorial rankings. Removal requests are honoured without argument and without requiring a reason.
  • Content, imagery or links sourced from leaks, hacks or non-consensual distribution — regardless of how widely circulated it is elsewhere.

△ Where this model is weak

  • Demand is our weakest inputWe have measured audience search interest for only a minority of the performers scored so far. The rest carry editorial estimates. This is the pillar most likely to move as our measurement of audience demand widens.
  • Award archives favour recent, American productionAVN, XBIZ and XRCO are US bodies founded in the 1980s and 1990s. Performers who worked earlier, or outside the United States, are structurally disadvantaged by the Recognition pillar. We correct for it by hand and disclose each correction, which is a fix but not a solution.
  • Craft is a judgement, and judgements varyOne informed desk scoring against the acting-award record is better than asserting an order with no reasoning, but it is still a view. It is capped at 15% and shown separately for that reason.
  • Pre-2000 credit counts are unreliableOlder releases are documented far less consistently than modern ones, which understates the output of long careers. The Longevity pillar partly offsets this; it does not fully correct it.
  • Normalisation means scores are not cross-comparableAn 88 on our Japanese ranking and an 88 on our MILF ranking are not the same achievement. Each score positions a performer within her own field, and comparing across articles is not a use these numbers support.

Corrections and update log

Factual corrections are made within 48 hours of verification and logged, dated and described at the foot of the article. Changes to the scoring model itself are logged the same way - when we found that Lifetime Achievement honours were being scored as Performer of the Year wins, we published the fix and the resulting rank changes rather than quietly re-running the build. Cadence: Full re-audit every six months; award pillars updated within 14 days of each major awards ceremony. Next full audit: 2027-02-20.

What changed in this edition

  • First edition. Fifteen performers scored on the Pornstar Ranked Performer Index v2.1, re-weighted for a category where a calendar year, not a career, is the unit of measurement.
  • Longevity cut to 4%, the largest single-pillar reduction anywhere in this programme; Recognition and Demand raised to 32% and 28% to absorb it. The reasoning is published in full in pillarWeightNote above.
  • Annual-refresh policy, stated plainly: this page's URL stays fixed and scoped to calendar-2023 work permanently. It will not be renamed or rolled forward to a different year — "porn star 2023" is a fixed historical search term, not a placeholder for whichever year is current. The page is re-audited on the programme’s standard six-month cycle to correct errors and add retrospective context, exactly like every other evergreen article here.
  • The ceremony-year distinction is enforced on every entry: where a performer’s best-known title actually honours 2022 work (Vanna Bardot’s first XBIZ win, Kira Noir’s AVN Female Performer of the Year, Seth Gamble’s AVN Male Performer of the Year, Tommy Pistol’s AVN Male Performer of the Year, Maitland Ward’s Drift sweep), that is stated directly rather than folded silently into a "2023" claim.
  • A section below covers 2023 as a documented industry year: the state age-verification law wave that Louisiana opened on 1 January 2023, Pornhub’s Utah blackout in protest of that state’s law, and the Money Shot: The Pornhub Story documentary — none of which any competing "porn star 2023" page treats as a real news year rather than a performer list.
2026-08-22
edition

First edition published. Fifteen performers scored on Index v2.1 with year-scoped weights: Recognition 32%, Demand 28%, Longevity cut to 4%.

2026-08-22
note

Ceremony-year convention adopted and stated on the page: "2023" means calendar-2023 work, honoured at the AVN and XBIZ ceremonies held January 2024 and the XRCO ceremony held spring 2024, not the ceremonies held during 2023 itself.

2026-08-22
correction

Several widely circulated "2023 pornstar" claims traced to a ceremony-year mislabelling rather than a fabrication — Angela White, Nicole Doshi, Jane Wilde and Danny D each hold a real title that honours 2022 work, not 2023, and are named in the near-misses section with the correct year rather than either silently ranked or silently dropped.

2026-08-22
note

Annual-refresh policy published: this URL stays fixed and scoped to calendar-2023 permanently rather than being replaced by a new dated URL each year, and is re-audited on the programme’s standard six-month cycle.

2026-08-22
note

Derek Kage’s 2023-work XBIZ Gay Performer of the Year win is absent from his Wikidata entry, which lists only his two later wins. Verified instead against XBIZ’s own ceremony page, which cites all three individually.
