Career

Born Asma Bhanu and originally from Mysore, Reshma became one of the most in-demand actresses of the South Indian softcore circuit in the late 1990s and early 2000s, working in Malayalam with dubbed releases in three other languages. Her career effectively ended between 2003 and 2005 as the spread of internet access in India collapsed the theatrical market for the genre. She disappeared from public view around 2008; in 2017 Shakeela said she was living quietly in a small town in Karnataka.

Signature: Her career is the cleanest single illustration of the genre’s economics: she rose and vanished with the theatrical B-circuit itself, within a decade.
