Paul Thomas
Career
Born Philip Charles Toubus, Thomas played Peter in Norman Jewison’s Jesus Christ Superstar (1973) and performed in stage productions of Hair and Beach Blanket Babylon before meeting the Mitchell Brothers and entering adult film in 1974. He was convicted of cocaine smuggling in 1982 and served one year in prison before resuming his career. From 1985 he moved into directing, working primarily for Vivid Entertainment from 1986 and winning seven AVN directing awards between 1991 and 2008 on top of two XRCO Best Director wins. He directed until his death in June 2025, aged 76.
Signature: He had a mainstream studio-film credit — Jesus Christ Superstar — before his first adult film, and fifty years later was still directing when he died.
