Nina Hartley
Career
Hartley earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing magna cum laude from San Francisco State University in 1985 and worked as a registered nurse until 1986, having begun performing in 1984. Outside the industry she is best known as a sex educator: she launched the long-running instructional Guide series in 1994 and co-authored Nina Hartley’s Guide to Total Sex in 2006. She has served on the boards of the Free Speech Coalition and the Woodhull Freedom Foundation, and has lectured at Dartmouth, Harvard and University of California campuses.
Signature: The educator’s instinct. Hartley performs with an explanatory warmth that made her the default booking whenever a production needed authority rather than novelty.
