Kay Parker
Career
Born in Birmingham, Parker took the lead in Taboo (1980), one of the era’s most commercially significant and widely imitated titles, spawning a long-running franchise under the same name. She retired from performing in the late 1980s and spent her remaining decades as a metaphysical counsellor and mentor, publishing the autobiography Taboo: Sacred, Don’t Touch in 2001 and hosting a YouTube channel on spirituality; the 2017 documentary A Taboo Identity chronicles that later transformation. She died in Los Angeles in October 2022.
Signature: Taboo made her the defining lead of a single film in a way almost no one else on this list can claim, and she spent her last three decades teaching, not performing.
