Zerrin Egeliler
Career
Egeliler began as a photo-romance model and took her first leading film role in Çıldırtan Kadın in 1971. When Turkish cinema turned wholesale to sex films from around 1974 she became the wave’s most sought-after and best-paid female performer, shooting sometimes two films in a day, and by the end of the decade German Wikipedia records her as the best-known female pornographic performer in Turkey. She worked exclusively in softcore and, according to the same source, consistently refused hardcore offers — a distinction worth keeping, because Turkish hardcore production did begin in 1979 and she is not part of it. The wave produced a sub-genre known simply as "Zerrin Egeliler films". After the coup of 12 September 1980 erotic film was banned outright; she shot her last film in 1981, sang in nightclubs until the policing of her stage dress made that impractical, and withdrew from public life. She married in 1987 and lives in Bursa.
Signature: The single disproof of the idea that Turkish adult film is entirely a German diaspora story — a domestic star of a domestic industry, whose career ended not by emigration but by a military coup.
