Kazım Kartal
Career
Kartal began acting in 1964 and spent nearly forty years as one of Turkish cinema’s most-used supporting players, typically cast as the villain, across a career Turkish Wikipedia estimates at close to a thousand films of which some 350 can be identified. He also wrote two screenplays and directed one film. During the sex-film wave of the 1970s he appeared in a number of those productions, and said publicly that he did so because he had reached the point of being unable to buy on credit at the grocer’s and had no choice. He was a member of the Turkish film actors’ union ÇASOD. He died of a heart attack in August 2003.
Signature: The reason a sub-genre of the sex-film wave was named after him is that he was in everything, not that he was an adult performer — which is the distinction this companion roster exists to make.
