Karen Lancaume
Career
Karen Lancaume worked in adult film for several years in the late 1990s before her career-defining role as Nadine in Baise-moi (2000), an arthouse revenge feature co-directed by novelist Virginie Despentes and fellow performer Coralie Trinh Thi, in which she and Raffaëla Anderson performed unsimulated sex on screen. The film was briefly reclassified in France after its release amid controversy over combining explicit content with a mainstream theatrical run, and it remains the clearest and best-documented mainstream/arthouse crossover of her career. She was nominated for Best French Actress at the March 2000 Hot d'Or ceremony but is documented as a nominee, not a winner — a distinction some secondary summaries blur. She spoke publicly and critically about exploitation and working conditions in the adult industry. She died in Paris on 28 January 2005, at the age of 32.
Signature: The face of Baise-moi's unsimulated-sex arthouse controversy in 2000 — nominated for a Hot d'Or that she did not, in fact, win, despite what some retrospectives claim.

- Birth name is given as 'Karine Bach' by English Wikipedia and as 'Karine Schillbach' by some French-language sources; which is correct could not be resolved.
- Birthplace is given as both Lyon and Vénissieux (a Lyon suburb) depending on source.
- Active-career span and film count both vary significantly by source (1995–1999 vs. 1996–2000; 30, 47, or 83 films).
- IMPORTANT CORRECTION: multiple aggregator-style summaries describe her as having WON a Hot d'Or (some specifying Best Actress in 2000 for Baise-moi). The sourced text of English Wikipedia states she was a NOMINEE for Best French Actress at the March 2000 ceremony, not a winner, and no primary source confirming an actual win was found. This nomination-to-win inflation is exactly the kind of error this archive is meant to catch, so no award is recorded here.
