Sybil Danning
Career
Born Sybille Danninger in Wels, Danning worked steadily in mainstream European and American productions from the late 1960s, including a role alongside Richard Burton and Raquel Welch in Bluebeard (1972) and the studio space opera Battle Beyond the Stars (1980), before spending the first half of the 1980s as a lead of erotic exploitation and women-in-prison cinema — Chained Heat (1983), the erotic thriller They’re Playing with Fire (1984) and the werewolf sequel Howling II (1985) among them. She won the Saturn Award for Outstanding Achievement in 1981, a mainstream genre-film honour from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films, and announced her retirement from acting in 1986, returning only occasionally afterward.
Signature: The only performer on this list with a competitive Saturn Award, the mainstream genre-film body’s top honour — won the same decade she was headlining erotic exploitation cinema.
