Serena Grandi
Career
Born Serena Faggioli in Bologna, Grandi became one of Italian cinema’s defining sex symbols of the 1980s and 1990s after Tinto Brass cast her in the title role of Miranda (1985), which he built specifically around her. She followed it with the Lamberto Bava giallo Delirium (1987) and continued working through the 1990s and 2000s. Her career came full circle in 2013 with a supporting role in Paolo Sorrentino’s The Great Beauty, which won the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film — the single most prestigious mainstream credit held by anyone on this list.
Signature: A Tinto Brass lead who ended up in the cast of an Academy Award-winning film thirty years later — the longest documented arc from softcore stardom to mainstream prestige cinema in this field.
