Marilyn Chambers
Career
Chambers was the model on Ivory Snow detergent boxes shortly before starring in the Mitchell Brothers’ Behind the Green Door, a coincidence that made her the first genuine crossover star of the Golden Age. She alternated between adult films and attempts at mainstream stardom, including a lead in David Cronenberg’s Rabid, returning to adult film when legitimate roles did not materialise. In later years she lectured on college campuses and ran two third-party campaigns for US Vice President.
Signature: The Ivory Snow coincidence put hardcore film on the front page of mainstream American media for the first time, and she is the reason it happened.
