Georgina Spelvin
Career
A former Broadway chorus performer, Spelvin became one of the defining dramatic actresses of the Golden Age with The Devil in Miss Jones, a film noted for narrative ambition rare in the genre at the time. She continued performing through the early 1980s before retiring in 1982, later working in desktop publishing for the Los Angeles Times until 2004 and publishing a memoir in 2008.
Signature: The Devil in Miss Jones demonstrated that a hardcore feature could carry a real dramatic performance — an argument the industry has been having ever since.
