Vanessa Del Rio

Career

Of Cuban and Puerto Rican descent, Del Rio debuted in 1974 and became one of the most prominent performers of the Golden Age, retiring from screen work in 1986 amid AIDS-era safety concerns before continuing in feature dancing and modelling. She later built and coded her own website to control her image and content directly, decades before that became standard practice.

Signature: The industry’s first major Latina star, and one of very few performers of any era still routinely referenced in hip-hop lyrics forty years on.
