Career
April Flores began in plus-size print modelling before her first adult-film scene in 2005, performing with Belladonna. She won the inaugural AVN Award for BBW Performer of the Year at the 31st AVN Awards in January 2014 — the category’s first year of existence — and won it again the following year at the 32nd AVN Awards, both confirmed against AVN’s own ceremony records rather than a secondary claim of "won both years" that some summaries repeat loosely. She became the first plus-size performer to appear on the cover of AVN magazine, and co-authored the 2013 photography book Fat Girl with her husband Carlos Batts, a twelve-year collaboration published by Rare Bird Books. She has written for The Feminist Porn Book and has stated publicly that she avoids performing in what she considers "traditional BBW porn", which she has described as derogatory toward the performers in it — an unusually direct piece of documented industry-terminology criticism from inside the category itself.
