Veronica Yip
Career
Born in Portuguese Macau, she placed second runner-up in the 1985 Miss Asia Pageant and moved into Hong Kong film and Cantopop. Between 1991 and 1992 she starred in three Category III films — Take Me, Pretty Woman and Hidden Desire — helping normalise the genre for other mainstream actresses. She released seven Cantopop and Mandopop albums between 1992 and 1995 and won three Best New Artist gold awards in 1992. She retired from entertainment after marrying businessman Jeffrey Wu in 1996, relocated to the United States, and is now involved in the Hong Kong Supermarket chain and other business ventures on Long Island, with a brief return to entertainment in 2012–2013.
Signature: The clearest single illustration of Category III as a genre mainstream stars passed through rather than one that defined them: three films out of a much larger acting and recording career.
