Ryan Idol
Career
Idol built a short, high-profile career from 1989 to 1996 around a small number of releases, most prominently Idol Eyes and Idol Country, and was inducted into the AVN Hall of Fame (Video Branch) in 1995. He moved into mainstream theatre after retiring from performing, appearing in the off-Broadway play Making Porn (1999) and Scent of Rain (2001–03), and made his Broadway debut in the 2007 Roundabout Theatre revival of The Ritz. In 2012 he was convicted of attempted murder following an assault on a domestic partner and served a prison sentence, released in 2022; that conviction is a matter of public record and is noted here for factual completeness. It concerns events well after his performing career ended and does not involve an adult-film colleague, so it does not meet this programme’s exclusion criteria, which concern coercion or unresolved assault allegations connected to adult-film work specifically.
Signature: One of the few performers here to build a second, legitimate stage-acting career on Broadway after retiring from adult film.

- Frequently repeated GayVN Award wins for 1990 (Best Videography) and 1994 (Best Actor) are anachronistic — the GayVN Awards were not established until 1998 — and are not scored
- 2012 attempted-murder conviction disclosed for factual completeness; retained on the list after editorial review because it does not meet the programme’s stated exclusion criteria
