Career

Born Rosa María Almirall Martínez in Barcelona, Romay met the director Jesús Franco in 1972 and worked with him almost exclusively for the next thirty-eight years, appearing in roughly 109 of his films across horror, erotic and action genres, several containing unsimulated sex. She contributed plot ideas and assisted with editing throughout, though her reported co-director credits are described in sourcing as a business arrangement rather than a formal credit. She married Franco in 2008, after 36 years together, and died of cancer in Málaga in 2012. She holds no industry award from any body — the FICEB Ninfa Awards did not yet exist for most of her active career.

Signature: The category’s clearest link to Spain’s pre-legalisation era: explicit material made under and immediately after Francoist censorship, decades before Barcelona had an award circuit of its own.
