King Noire
Career
Born in New York City in January 1981 and raised in New Jersey by his mother, an only child. He began rapping at ten. Raised Christian, he says he read the Bible cover to cover at thirteen, was told not to ask questions about it, and came to Islam after reading the Autobiography of Malcolm X — a condition his mother set before letting him see the 1992 film. He entered the adult industry as a teenager, starting with a magazine shoot he accompanied a friend to, and moved from there into live shows and film, performing as King Noire. He has been publicly and repeatedly outspoken about racism in pornography, has refused work he considered discriminatory and has lectured on it, and was one of the performers Esquire built its 2017 investigation of racism in the industry around. He co-owns Royal Fetish Films, the Body Altitudes gym and the Jet Setting Jasmine brand with Jasmine Johnson, and teaches the Steel & Stilettos classes. In parallel he has released five records as Hasan Salaam, won Best Live Performance and Best Underground Song at the 2005 Underground Music Awards, toured internationally, and in November 2010 became the first American hip hop artist to perform in Guinea-Bissau.
Signature: The only man on this page, the only convert to Islam on it who arrived through Malcolm X rather than through a country, and the only performer here whose public argument is about race in the industry rather than about faith.

- Debut year in the adult industry. English Wikipedia says "as a teenager" and gives no year. Nothing on file documents a credit produced before he turned eighteen, and the programme’s under-18 exclusion is therefore not triggered — but the wording is ambiguous and is flagged here rather than resolved
- Credit count and studio affiliations beyond Royal Fetish Films
- His 2005 Underground Music Awards wins are music awards and are deliberately not entered in the awards array, which the Recognition pillar reads as adult-industry recognition
- Height, hair and eye colour are not recorded by any encyclopaedic source
- Birthplace: English Wikipedia says born in New York City and raised in New Jersey; Wikidata gives origin as New Jersey
