Joey Stefano
Career
Nicholas Anthony Iacona Jr. performed as Joey Stefano from 1989, appearing in 58 documented films before his death in 1994. His visibility crossed further into mainstream pop culture than most peers of his era: he appeared as a model in Madonna’s 1992 book Sex and in two of her music videos. He died on 26 November 1994 in Los Angeles at 26; the coroner’s finding, per Wikipedia, was an accidental overdose combining cocaine, morphine, heroin and ketamine. He was not reported to have been diagnosed HIV-positive, and no reliable source attributes his death to AIDS — a claim that circulates about him and that this article does not repeat. He was inducted into the AVN Hall of Fame (Video Branch), posthumously, in 1997.
Signature: A five-year career that produced more mainstream pop-culture crossover — via Madonna — than most performers manage across three decades.
