Conner Habib
Career
Born Andre Khalil to a Syrian father and an Irish-American mother, he grew up in Catasauqua, Pennsylvania, in a home he has described as "areligious". He taught literature and composition at the University of Massachusetts Amherst from 2004 to 2007 and at Western New England University in 2007 before entering the adult industry, where he appeared in more than 150 scenes for Titan Media, Men.com, Falcon Entertainment and Raging Stallion Studios. He won the GayVN Award for Best Newcomer in 2010 and the Grabby Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2012, and served as vice-president of the Adult Performer Advocacy Committee from 2014 to 2016. He has written for BuzzFeed, Salon, Vice, Slate, The Stranger and The Irish Times, launched the podcast Against Everyone With Conner Habib in June 2017, and published his debut novel Hawk Mountain with W. W. Norton in July 2022; it was longlisted for the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction.
Signature: He picked the stage surname Habib specifically because it reads as Middle Eastern, in an industry where almost nobody was visibly Arab — and he wrote an essay explaining that he had done it. Nobody else in this category made their Arab identity a deliberate professional choice rather than a fact journalists dug up.
