Mia Khalifa
Career
Khalifa was born in Beirut in February 1993 and raised Catholic in what she has described as a "very conservative" home. Her family left Lebanon in the aftermath of the South Lebanon conflict and moved to the United States in 2001, settling in Montgomery County, Maryland; she attended a French-language private school in Beirut before that, then Massanutten Military Academy in Virginia, and graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso with a BA in history. She entered the adult industry in October 2014 after being approached about nude modelling, and took her stage name from her dog and the rapper Wiz Khalifa. A Bang Bros scene in which she wore a hijab made her the most-searched performer on Pornhub within weeks and drew heavy criticism; she has argued the scene was satirical. She received online death threats, including a digitally manipulated image of her being beheaded by the Islamic State, and her parents publicly disowned her. She signed a contract with Bang Bros’ parent company in January 2015, resigned two weeks later, and has said she performed for three months in total. She has since worked as a sports broadcaster, social-media personality and OnlyFans creator, and has campaigned about performers’ lack of control over their back catalogue.
Signature: She is the only performer in this category whose significance is a public argument rather than a filmography: about what an adult contract signs away, about who owns the footage afterwards, and about what happens to a woman from a Lebanese family when it circulates for a decade.
