Brandon Lee
Career
Born Jon Enriquez in Mobile, Alabama, to a Filipino-American family, Lee debuted in gay adult film in 1997 at 18, discovered by director Chi Chi LaRue, and is widely credited in industry and academic writing as the first gay Asian pornographic film star and the first widely known Asian performer to work as a "top." He crossed into the mainstream gay-porn market by 1998 after initial work aimed at a niche Asian audience, and scored four pornographic films as a composer alongside performing. He served as a U.S. Navy aircraft mechanic from 1998 to 2003, effectively running the two careers in parallel, then trained as a chef, working as executive chef at the Michelin-starred Los Angeles restaurant Ortolan before founding a catering business in San Francisco in 2010. In 2015 the Grabby Awards inducted him into its Wall of Fame, reported by AVN's own trade coverage of that year's ceremony — the honour that ceremony gives "for impact on the industry rather than the length of time" served in it.
Signature: Credited in academic writing on the industry (Nguyen, A View from the Bottom, Duke University Press, 2014) as the first gay Asian porn star and the first Asian performer known widely as a "top" — a genuine before-and-after figure, not a superlative claim without a source behind it.
