Billy Dee
Career
Born William Randall Daniels, of documented Irish, Mexican and African heritage, Dee debuted in The Legend of Lady Blue in 1978 and worked through 1996 opposite major stars of the period at a time when, per his own Wikipedia biography, casting practices in the industry routinely kept Black and white performers apart on screen. He is credited there with having "blurred the color lines" during the Golden Age, and the XRCO Hall of Fame inducted him in 2002. Retired since 1996, he now divides his time between Bristol, England and the United States.
Signature: A Golden Age career built specifically around crossing a casting line studios of the period enforced deliberately — the clearest documented case on this list of a performer working directly against the industry's own segregation practices rather than inside a marketing category built after the fact.
