Born Wesley Lawrence and named, by his own account, after actor Wesley Snipes, Pipes worked from 1998 through a competitive run that produced Urban X Hall of Fame induction in 2009, AVN Hall of Fame induction in 2015 and an XBIZ win, shared with Jada Stevens, in 2016. In January 2015 he was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer; he announced remission in January 2020. Since retiring from performing he has worked in comedy and music.
