Career

Born Erika Hallqvist, Lust studied political science at Lund University before moving to Barcelona in 2000 to study filmmaking. She released her first explicit short, The Good Girl, in 2004, founded Lust Films the following year, and has said openly that she has no objection to her work being called pornography because she expects it to arouse viewers — a deliberate rejection of the "erotica, not porn" euphemism some couples-market studios use. She launched the streaming platform Lust Cinema in 2010 and the crowd-sourced XConfessions project in 2013, inviting the public to submit fantasies for her to film. The BBC named her to its 100 Women list in 2017, the same year she and her husband Pablo Dobner launched the sex-education site The Porn Conversation.

Signature: One of the only directors on this list whose work is explicitly certified by the European feminist-porn movement rather than adjacent to it — three Feminist Porn Awards Movie of the Year titles, from the Toronto ceremony most closely tied to the PorYes-era feminist-porn argument.
