Brooke Ashley
Career
Born Anne Marie Ballowe in Daegu to a Korean mother and American father, Ashley worked in adult film from 1993, best known publicly for the 1998 production The World’s Biggest Anal Gangbang. She contracted HIV during that production and in 1999 filed suit alleging performer Marc Wallice had concealed a positive status through falsified testing; four other performers tested positive around the same time. The case turned on whether she held employee status while filming, and was decided in her favour by California’s Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board in 2010 — reported as the first successful US damages claim by an adult performer for an on-set HIV infection. She also appeared on MTV’s True Life: I’m a Porn Star in 1998.
