Ahn So-young
Career
Ahn So-young played the title role in Madame Aema, released 6 February 1982, an erotic melodrama that sold more than 100,000 tickets in Seoul that year and launched a franchise that ran to at least eleven sequels — the longest-running series in Korean film history. The film arrived as South Korea relaxed film-industry censorship under the so-called 3S policy of the early 1980s. For the role she won Best New Actress (Film) at the 18th Baeksang Arts Awards, one of Korean cinema’s oldest mainstream honours. She returned to the screen in 2017 with Mi-ok.
Signature: The original Madame Aema, in a franchise that became the longest-running series in Korean cinema history — anchored by a genuine Best New Actress win from a mainstream national awards body, not a niche one.
