Anneka Di Lorenzo

Career

Di Lorenzo modelled from age seventeen, appeared as a Penthouse Pet of the Month in 1973, and was named Pet of the Year in 1975 — the only confirmed Pet of the Year title in this field. Her best-known film work followed the pattern of the era: she performed in unsimulated sex scenes filmed by Penthouse founder Bob Guccione for Caligula (1979), against the objections of the film’s credited director, Tinto Brass. Wikipedia states plainly that her participation in those scenes made it harder for her to find mainstream film work afterward, a direct cost that the magazine title itself did not carry. She retired from performing in 1980 and later co-founded a skincare venture, The Forever Young Experience, in 2000. Her body was found on a beach at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, on 4 January 2011; an autopsy found a broken neck and back and listed drowning as the cause of death, and investigators were unable to determine whether her death was accidental, a suicide, or a homicide.

Signature: A 1975 Pet of the Year title sitting inside a filmography that includes Caligula’s hardcore inserts is the earliest and starkest example on this list of a magazine credential and a film career pulling in opposite career directions at once.
