Cicciolina
Career
Born Ilona Anna Staller in Budapest, Cicciolina began performing in Italian films in 1970 and adopted the stage name in 1973 for a radio show, before appearing in her first hardcore film, Telefono rosso, in 1983. Her most consequential photographic work came later and outside the industry entirely: from 1989 she collaborated with American artist Jeff Koons on Made in Heaven, a series of sculptures and photographs of the couple that debuted at the 1990 Venice Biennale — an adult performer’s nude image entering a major contemporary-art exhibition on its own terms, rather than as a magazine pictorial. She married Koons in 1991 and divorced him in 1994. Separately, she posed for the Argentine (1988), American (1990), Hungarian, Serbian and Mexican (all 2005) editions of Playboy, and was elected to the Italian Chamber of Deputies in 1987, serving until 1992.
