Poonam Pandey
Career
Born in Mumbai in March 1991, Pandey became nationally known in 2011 for a promise to strip if India won the Cricket World Cup — India won and she did not, later saying the cricket board refused permission — and posed nude after Kolkata Knight Riders took the 2012 Indian Premier League. She made her Hindi film debut in the erotic drama Nasha in 2013 and has worked mainly in reality television since, including Khatron Ke Khiladi 4 and Lock Upp. In 2017 she launched the Pandey App, which carried adult-oriented content and which Google removed from its store within an hour for policy violations. In January 2022 the Supreme Court granted her protection from arrest in connection with the Mumbai investigation into allegedly obscene content distributed through mobile applications; those allegations are untested and no conviction has been reported. In February 2024 her team announced her death from cervical cancer as an awareness stunt, which drew heavy criticism and a public apology from her the following day.
