Ela Darling
Career
Darling, a former reference librarian with a Master of Library Science from the University of Illinois, entered the industry in 2009 and became a co-founder of VRTube.xxx in 2014, recording an early stereoscopic VR sex scene the same year that drew coverage in The New York Times. She served as founding secretary of the Adult Performer Advocacy Committee, formed in February 2014 to fill the advocacy gap left when the Adult Industry Medical Health Care Foundation closed in 2011. The Free Speech Coalition gave her its Positive Image Award in 2016, and XBIZ named her Crossover Star of the Year in 2018.
Signature: Moved directly from performer-advocacy leadership into founding one of the first dedicated VR production companies, the clearest example on this list of the industry rebuilding itself around new technology rather than a fixed location.
